INS (In-Mold Stereo Decoration) is an advanced surface decoration technology that integrates a pre-formed three-dimensional decorative film with the plastic injection molding process to produce high-quality, durable finished parts.
The process involves the following steps:
Film Printing: A decorative pattern—such as wood grain, brushed metal, carbon fiber, or leather texture—is pre-printed onto a film substrate, typically made of PET or similar materials.
High-Pressure Thermoforming: The printed film is subjected to high-pressure thermoforming or vacuum forming to create a three-dimensional shape that precisely matches the contour of the final product's exterior surface, ensuring tight wrapping around complex curves, edges, and deep-drawn geometries.
Trimming and Punching: The formed film is accurately trimmed and punched according to the product profile.
In-Mold Injection: The trimmed three-dimensional film is placed into the injection mold cavity. During the injection molding cycle, the molten plastic is injected and fuses with the back surface of the film.
Demolding: After cooling, the decorative film becomes an integral part of the product surface. The transparent protective topcoat of the film remains on the exterior, permanently encapsulating the printed pattern beneath it.
